FreedomWorks’
vision is to establish a Welcome Back
Center
in
both Hennepin
and Ramsey counties, while creating Freedom
Houses,
multi-dimensional housing options, in each of the
seven
counties located
in the Twin Cities Metro Area.
The
Welcome Back
Center provides a
safe place for former
offenders
and their families to work through the inevitable struggles
that
occur after a period of incarceration. Many of these men
and
women
have no other place to turn and find the acceptance
and
help they need. The
vital support and counsel to deal with
pressing
life issues are
offered to former prisoners and their
family members.

Freedom Houses provide housing, one of
the
most serious reentry issues for individuals leaving prison. In the
Twin
Cities Metro Area, there is a shortage of affordable housing.
Also,
former offenders may be screened out by potential landlords
because of their criminal record and
lack of references. In addition, federal laws restrict many former
prisoners from public housing and federally-assisted housing programs,
meaning some are not able to return home to their
families.
Individuals
residing in Freedom Houses have the opportunity
to
live in a setting that meets their financial and
social needs.
For
some, a
small-group setting provides companionship as well as
a
more affordable
housing option, while others thrive in a
private
apartment.
All programs at FreedomWorks
foster
life-transformation
through support groups, individual
counseling, services projects, and
worship opportunities.
For a newly released offender feeling
trapped in a wasteland of
despair, FreedomWorks desires to
serve as an oasis offering hope,
encouragement, and support.
